Test Design

 

Alternative 1

Objective: To validate the Title 22 compliance of  the TFF

Phase 1. Filtration without chemicals (Testing the effect of hydraulic loading)
Phase 2. Filtration with chemicals (10~30 ppm, 17% PAC)
Phase 3. Challenge test (High solid loading , 10~40mg/L TSS)

Test Results - Alternative 1 (TFF)

All results for TFF operation meet the Title 22 requirements with less than 2 NTU

Alternative 2

Objective: To validate the Title 22 compliance of the BBF

Phase 1. System stabilization
Phase 2. Performance with different hydraulic loading rates (1.2 ~ 3.8 gpm/sf)
Phase 3. Performance with high organic and solid loading (High solid loading , 10~40mg/L TSS)

Test Results - Alternative 2 (BFF-Filtration)

• All results for BBF operation meet the Title 22 requirements with less than 2 NTU

Alternative 3

Objective: To validate simultaneous nitrogen and turbidity removal for the Title 22 compliance

Phase 1. BBF acclimation and system modification (Seeding, reactor connection for nitrogen control)
Phase 2. Performance with different nitrogen loading (30~60 N-lb/1000 ft3/d )
Phase 3. Low nitrogen limit (5, 3 mg/L) (Electron donor, internal recycle rate, pressure)
Phase 4. Performance at peak flow (80~150 N-lb/1000 ft3/d )

Test Results - Alternative 3 (BFF-Nitrogen & Filtration)

Performance of Nitrification

• Effluent  NH4-N Less than 2 mg/L (> 34 min EBCT)
• Effluent NH4-N is sensitive to influent NH4-N loading (< 27 min EBCT)

Performance of Denitrification

•Stable effluent NO3-N at normal & challenge conditions
