Maximize energy savings & production
Enormous amount of energy is needed to treat the sewage (electricity consumed in the water and wastewater treatment plant accounts for 2-4% of the total electricity consumption in the United States). Paradoxically, there are diverse energy sources in the sewage. Therefore, when designing or operating a sewage treatment plant, it is necessary to consider ways to minimize energy consumption and maximize energy recovery.
BKT offers energy efficient Turbo Blower to save electricity used for aeration which accounts for 30-50% of the electricity consumption in the sewage treatment plant. BKT also offers the Energy Optimization System (EOS) to operate the sewage plant efficiently. EOS can predict, control and optimize the aeration and other operation parameters of the sewage plant based on the Big Data of the past influent wastewater characteristics. With Big Data, the EOS system can grasp income sewage in advance and supplies air according to the inflow load.
The sludge from the sewage treatment plant can be used to generate methane through anaerobic digestion, but it takes a long period of time to decompose and is difficult to decompose biologically in some cases. BKT uses COWT, a thermal hydrolysis technology, as a pretreatment process for anaerobic digestion to maximize methane production by increasing the biodegradability of the solids. Through a well-balanced process design, increase in methane production can be achieved while overcoming the negative effects of the byproduct from thermal hydrolysis process.
