Pulmuone Foods USA Awards Tomorrow Water with Turnkey Wastewater Treatment Project

ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA (MARCH 2021) — Tomorrow Water announced that it has been awarded a turnkey wastewater treatment project with Pulmuone Foods USA, Inc. (Pulmuone) to treat high-strength industrial wastewater onsite - where organics, total suspended solids (TSS), and fats, oil, and grease (FOG) are removed before discharge to the Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD).

Pulmuone, located in Fullerton, California is a food manufacturer, known for its organic tofu, processes primarily for soy-based products and is expanding its production capacity to meet increasing consumer demand in the U.S. The planned expansion will double its generated wastewater and increase forecasted surcharge fees.

Pulmuone decided to pursue Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles for responsible investment for business management and environmental sustainability.

Through its feasibility studies, Tomorrow Water has worked closely with Pulmuone to determine the best option to treat wastewater and mitigate the expected surcharge hikes, while minimizing waste at the same time. With the proposed new system, Pulmuone will be able to reduce the surcharge fees, which will recover the investment of the system within several years.

The system will be designed and constructed by Tomorrow Water within a period of 14 months and presents a turnkey solution for Pulmuone - Tomorrow Water will also be operating the system upon completion.

Tomorrow Water continuously seeks opportunities to reinforce ESG management and sustainability principles to solve environmental issues in the industrial sector. E.F. Kim, CEO of Tomorrow Water, explained that “many mid-sized food and beverage companies don’t know how to deal with their wastewater. Even though they are paying significant amounts in surcharge costs, which hurts their profit margin, wastewater treatment can easily be neglected since it is not their main job. Tomorrow Water can assist by providing turnkey solutions, including operations, so these companies can focus on their main job, manufacturing.”

In many cases, investments in treating waste can be offset by the surcharge costs they would have been paid to dispose of the waste. Pulmuone expects surcharge savings to increase their profit margin. James Kim, COO of Tomorrow Water, says that “Tomorrow Water is willing to invest in these types of projects with our own financing since the savings will justify the pay-out structure very strongly. It’s a win-win game for the manufacturing company, Tomorrow Water, and the environment.”
